FIR-NDT

Far-Infrared (FIR) radiation properties are an intermediate between millimeter and longwave infrared (LWIR). FIR radiation band can be manipulated by employing techniques similar to those used within the infrared radiation band, while for longer wavelengths (in excess 200μm) FIR radiation is handled with techniques met within the millimeter regime. Far-Infrared radiation penetrate dielectric materials easier than LWIR. At the same time, FIR wavelengths are much shorter than millimeter waves (MMW). FIR systems can, therefore, image targets with far greater lateral resolution than millimeter wave devices.

Hence, the FIR radiation’s potential in industrial automation.
